Program
Clients are supported in gaining understanding of their addictions and how to prevent relapse through:
- Assessment and Treatment Planning.
- Individual and group counselling as well as goal setting sessions.
- Workshops focusing on addictions and living skills.
- Attending a Twelve-step program or other self-help program in the community regularly.
- Developing a support network in the community so that when they leave the house they have continued support in place.
- Behaviour modification through knowledge, awareness and personal evaluation.
Clients are encouraged to develop healthy relationships by acquiring skills in:
- Identifying their feelings.
- Identifying needs and how to meet them in a healthy manner.
- Resolving conflict and improving communication.
- Taking responsibility when needed and letting go of responsibility when it is not appropriate.
Clients are encouraged to develop a support system in the community by:
- Establishing support through sponsorship affiliated with a Twelve-step program or other self-help groups.
- Establishing ongoing counselling support through Alberta Health Services or other professionals.
- Pursing involvement in voluntary community activities such as social clubs, recreational activities, and church.
The McDougall House program is not licensed to house children. Visitations with children must be prearranged with staff. All mandated supervised visits must occur outside of the house.
