Creating Sustainable Funding for McDougall House
Our mission is to provide a safe treatment environment that empowers women in recovery from addictions, in support of their choice to live healthy, happy and productive lives.

McDougall House Association (MHA) is a 12 bed, addictions recovery centre in Edmonton, focused on the unique recovery journeys of women. MHA has been a part of the community since 1969 when it was founded in response to the lack of community resources available for women with alcohol and drug-related challenges. We provide a home and programming that offers dignity, respect, and above all, safety for women embarking on their personal journey of recovery. This year alone we have enrolled 53 women to our 3-month program. Our clients have already completed a “first stage” treatment and come to MHA for support and the acquisition of skills they can use to sustain their sobriety.
Why are we asking for your support?
Our funding is provided from various sources, including Recovery Alberta (formerly AHS), grants, donations, fundraising by our Board and volunteers, and investments. We are grateful for the hard work and support of our staff, volunteers, sponsors and donors. Due to escalating costs and ongoing demand for our services, we have a funding gap of $75,000 we are working to close.

“I am so thankful for McDougall House.”
Almost ten years ago, I found myself almost hitting rock bottom. My addiction was the worst it had ever been. I was 32, living with my parents, couldn’t hold a job, made terrible choices and woke up with so much guilt and shame. I was letting people down, including myself. The trauma from my childhood and adult life wasn’t going away, no matter what I put in my body to “forget”. I felt worthless.
Luckily, I was able to get into an amazing treatment facility, and while I was there, one of the counsellors helped me get into McDougall House. As soon as I completed treatment, I was able to move in. It was honestly such an amazing transition for me to help me get back into the “real” world. McDougall kept me accountable. I had rules. And chores. Counselling. The routine really helped. It felt so amazing to have a “normal” life again. Rather than staying up all night, I had a good night’s rest and got up early to start my day … it was so helpful to bond with other women who had gone through the same struggles as me and now were trying to better themselves like I was. The counsellors were helpful, they encouraged me to be better and do better. I was able to resolve and work through my trauma. People heard me and understood me.
I am now 42 years old……I have been sober and clean for almost TEN years!!!!!! I have a husband and a five-year-old son. I own my own house. I have a vehicle that is paid for. I was able to rebuild my credit. I love myself and have confidence and know my worth now. McDougall helped me convince myself that I deserved it all!! I deserved a good life. I deserved to be happy. Living a clean and sober life has brought me all the things I’d only wished for ten years ago. I’m so thankful and grateful and appreciative for everything that McDougall House did for me.
